Most turntables are assembled from parts that vibrate against each other. The R1 chassis is machined from a single billet of aluminium, then dampened with a constrained-layer base. Fewer joints, fewer resonances, less of the table and more of the music.
Belt-driven, with the motor moved into its own separate housing. Its hum never reaches the platter, so the only thing your cartridge picks up is what's pressed into the groove. Speed holds to 0.04% wow and flutter, low enough that you'll stop thinking about numbers and start thinking about the room.
It does the one thing a turntable is for, and refuses to be interesting in any other way.
